Established in 1987, the Multi-State Transit Technical Assistance Program (MTAP) helps transit agencies within state departments of transportation (DOTs) improve their professional networks and solve technical problems through a variety of peer exchange opportunities. MTAP helps state DOTs understand and implement Federal Transit Administration (FTA) policies and programs, provides feedback to FTA on implementation issues and best practices, and creates a professional network to share best practices, receive technical assistance and obtain new ideas from other states. MTAP links state DOTs through a host of services including information exchanges on Federal regulations, grant program reporting requirements, public transportation funding, and state oversight of transit systems.
